Today I read about a brother by the name of CPT Everett Dennis Keaton, my second wife's last name was Keaton, so the name caught my attention right away. Reading about CPT Keaton, to my surprise I found we were stationed in the same division 6-31st, and at the same place and time Ben Luc. To the family I am so sorry for our and all of you the family's loss. I don't think I knew CPT Keaton, I'm just not sure for that has been a lot of years ago, but I know our paths had to cross as were were serving in Ben Luc together.
I was at a Fire base called Chamberlain, a dump, then was transferred to Ben Luc, about 6 or 8 weeks after my arrival in Vietnam, when I arrived at Ben Luc firebase it was still under construction. I stayed there until our division 6-31st was broken up and I was transferred to the 101st Airborne Division. I was in Ben Luc for about 9 months before transfer.
I haven't been in contact with any of my brothers since I left Vietnam but now I have a chance maybe and I think I am ready to try to find some of them with the help of this website. Thank all of you who work helping us guys to try to get home and find each other.
My job was driving the ration truck delivering rations to the fire bases, including Ben Luc, so Ben Luc was my home base. I drove out every morning and back every evening. My shot gun rider was called Dutchman, but I don't know his real name, after all the time we spent together, sad, but most of us had knicknames and that was who we called and knew one another by so we don't have much to work with when we get the nerve to try to find one another but, I love each and every one of you guys, if I knew you or not.
If there is anyone out there who knows or thinks they know me please send me an e-mail. By the way I was dating the girl who worked in the mess hall by the name of Loon, she was better known then I was and a lot cuter... lol My knickname was Tex, being I was in and from Texas, hope these tips might help you know who I am and help me find some of you my brothers. - Roger J. Viles, HHC (Mess)

On Father's Day (June 18th) Dennice Keaton Crenshaw and her husband Aaron contacted us and have asked for our help. Dennice writes, "I never got to know my dad and would like any info that anyone could provide." Dennice is the daughter of Cpt. Everett D. Keaton, C/O Delta from November 1969 through January of 1970. Captain Keaton was KIA on 01/20/1970.
On the wall page for Captain Keaton, Dan Kelley wrote, " I did not serve in the field with Captain Keaton, but I am told he was good. We were discussing whether to bring our newly born children to Hawaii. He decided to have his daughter, Denise, come with his wife in November,1969; I chose not to when I met my wife in December, 1969. As it turned out that would be the only time Dennis got to see his daughter. "
In excerpts from the History of the 31st Regiment Chapter 18 Karl Lowe referencing Captain Keaton writes, " both men had a reputation for reckless bravery that made them popular with their men", "widely respected for his personal bravery, Captain Everett Dennis Keaton angrily took the point in the classic "follow me" style". Referencing the new base at Ben Luc, "On April 14, the new base was finished. It was named Camp Everett D. Keaton, in honor of D Company's fallen commander."
We know there are other men that remember Captain Keaton, and have memories that you could share with Dennice and Aaron. Please do not hesitate to respond because you might not remember very much - when a family member is looking for information any 'little' memory that you have may mean the world to them.

My name is Rudy Ortiz, Delta Co. 68/69 2nd Platoon. Does any one remember the day when we had been conducting a search mission in 1968, about July or August. Some one set off a land mine and 7 or 8 personnel of our unit were wounded. I remember the incident very well, I was following everyone when it went off. The explosion threw me on my back and as I was falling they all fell. I could see Charles Stingly looking at us, and Leonard Patterson was just laying there. I have always wondered what became of them. I can't get it out of my mind without feeling sad over the incident. To this day I can't remember the names of every one that was hurt in the explosion. Thanks for your assistance.
Webmaster notation: A call has been put out to Delta Company to see if we can help Rudy in finding closure on this incident. Leonard Patterson was located, contact information was forwarded along to Rudy Ortiz.

My name is Dan Ezso, Co E, 6th Bn, 31st Inf, 9th Inf Division, April 1968 to April 1969. I'm trying to reach Robert Hansen, Company Clerk for Charlie Company, 6-31st during April 68, April 69 tour of duty. If anybody knows his where abouts, I'd appreciate an e-mail. Also, I would like to send a personal thank you and a "way-ta-go" to all the men who obviously put a tremendous amount of work into the 6-31st web site. It certainly brought a flood of memories. Thanks. Dan Ezso
Webmaster notation: Thanks to the information provided by Bill McMullen of Charlie Co. we were able to find that sadly Robert Hansen had passed in 1974, although not the information Dan was hoping for, we hope that in knowing he has found peace and closure.

My name is Johnny Hutcherson. My crew and I medivac three men out of a hot L.Z. on 9-26-68. We were hit with heavy ground fire and crashed a mile from P.Z. One man was Black, one man had a chest wound and one man was a SSG. We were on the ground for a few hours. Airstrikes were called in. At sun set we were Picked -up from L.Z. I often think of that day and would like to know if you have any information on the wounded we picked up or the fire fight. Did the m'an with the chest wound live? I do know we were shot down in Kien Tuong a little after 1PM. I don't know if your friend Robert was one of these men are if he was in same fire fight? I was with D Troop 3/5 Air- Cavalry, as a Door Gunner UH-1D helicopter. Hutch
Webmaster notation: Hutch was put in contact with the men of the 6/31 Delta Company and received direct information regarding his request. Thank you Delta Dawgs for answering the call.
