SSG Bolander was on his 4th tour in Vietnam.His first 3 years was in an A Team in the 5TH Special Forces Group.Each A Team member had to have 2 MOS'S.That is why in the field,you always seen him caring the medical bag.In March,1970 he voluntered for the Recon Platoon,Echo CO and became the ARTY FO for the Black Team .During the night patrols/ambushes he killed numerous NVA(also 1 of 2 NVA that had raped a little 15 year South Vietnamese girl 3 weeks prior).

For his valor,in Cambodia,he was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart.He was medevaced  by a Brigadier General from the 25th Division.In June,1970 He was badly wounded by a booby trap and LTC Gearin pearsonally brought in his C and C Huey and medevaced him.SSG Bolander had to take a medical discharge. Of all the Vietnam Veterans I served with ,he was the bravest of the brave.
