OUR HERO

Killed in action April 5, 1970 by ground casualty gun, small arms fire hostile, died in Hua Nghia South Vietnam. The body was recovered. Home of record was DWIGHT, NE. Born August 21, 1949 age at death 20. A Caucasian Male, Single. Religious affiliation Roman Catholic.

We were on a night bush. We were surprised and when the bush blew Novak sat straight up and was immediately hit. I called for a Medivac. While waiting for the chopper, Jazz was called to the radio and I replaced him giving external heart massage. We didn't give up but our efforts were in vain. Novak was our machine gunner (M60) since Johnson left. He was missed and I will always remember that night.
